Day with Wendy
I just came back from Thailand yesterday and Wendy’s leaving to New York tomorrow. So we hung out today to catch up. We talked about:
- The real victims of spoiling are the kids. Rather than learning to deal with situations, children learn that pouting and throwing tantrums are the way to fulfilling needs.
- Stealing is bad for the thief. Regardless of whether it’s a victimless crime, the thief knows they stole. Just as a cheater lives in fear of discovery, it is the thief who ultimately suffers.
- It is important to share photos quickly. A backlog of photos rapidly becomes a burden. The longer they stay private, the less relevant they become, and the more difficult it is to revitalize them to their contemporary glory.
- Focusing really means removing non-essential tasks. My top priorities are: meditation, yoga, writing, reading, connecting. Anything that’s not on that list, I catch myself doing and I stop it. Further organization can be done, GTD-style.
- My goals with this site. I’ve been playing with Path recently, and I love the way it easily allows me to plop stuff down easily. I’d like to have a public path showing all my random crap (a tumblog?), which will serve as inspiration for my longer blog entries, which will serve as raw material for something bigger.
I’m grateful for:
- F.lux, which makes my laptop screen much nicer to look at at night.
- Mac Screen Rotate, which turns my laptop into an in-bed ebook reader.
- The power of walking away, which gives 75% discounts at Lady Street.
- Wendy, my sister from another mister.
- My grandma, whom I’ll be seeing tomorrow morning.
