“It Tastes Different”

To my left, a paraplegic. To my right, a double date. Across, a love triangle. Diagonally, a family of five.

Here I am, eating by myself in the midst of this. We share the same food but different experiences.

I Am Not Perfect

I love me.

Hearts Everywhere

My friend Theresa sees hearts everywhere. She sees them in paint
splats on the floor. She sees them in her tea leaves. She probably
sees them in her poop, though this is unconfirmed.

Maybe she’s got hearts in her mind and she sees them everywhere.
Like a Rorschach test, her heart-filled personality comes to light.

Perhaps her head is so filled with hearts that she’s manifesting
them with her positive energy. The law of attraction supports this
theory.

So she’s interpreting her world to be full of hearts, or she’s
actually making it one. Either way, she’s living in a love-filled
world.

I want to be like Theresa. I want to see hearts everywhere. I want
to see everything in a positive light. I want to manifest good
things in my world and positively interpret everything else.

It’s a beautiful world!

Snowboard Return Adventure

6:57 pm My eyes pop open. I have to return the snowboard! The
store closes at 8. Google says it’ll take 15 minutes to get there.
Plenty of time. I get dressed and walk to the car.

7:15 Remote’s not working. Weird. I use the key and start
driving.

7:20 I drive down a 35 mph local road. This doesn’t look familiar.

7:30 I’m lost. I’m getting increasingly pissed off as I waste
time doing random U-turns. There’s no wifi anywhere. I break down
and ask for directions.

7:41 Red light.

7:49 Red light.

7:53 Red light. I’m not going to make it by 8. I am fuming.

7:57 My breathing is shallow; I’m gripping the steering wheel
tight.

I decide to laugh.

What a ridiculous situation. I can’t believe I got lost. It was
supposed to take 15 minutes! Oh well, that’s $15 down the drain.
Next time wake up earlier.

7:59 The light turns green. I turn onto an expressway. I’m
suddenly driving at 60 mph. There are no cars in front of me.

8:07 I’m here! I see some guy exiting the store. They’re still
open!

I run out, praying the remote works. It does. I grab the board and
run into the store. Shit, wrong board.

I run back out, praying the remote works again. It does. I swap the
boards, run in and slam the board on the counter. “Didn’t you have
boots?” “It’s in the car! One minute!”

I run out of the store again. The remote ignores me for a second,
then opens the trunk out of pity. I grab the boots.

I run back to the store as someone was locking the door. He gives
me the I just want to go home look.

“I’m just returning the boots! I already returned the board!”

He sighs and lets me in.

I run to the rental counter and throw down the boots.

BEEP

BEEP

“Okay, you’re all set.”

And all it took was a change of attitude.

Raw Trail Mix

“Necessity, who is the mother of invention.” -Plato, The Republic

I’ve been trying to save money while eating healthy, so I shop a
lot at Trader Joe’s. Since I exercise daily, I need fat and protein
in my diet. Trader Joe’s Go Raw Trek Mix was a tasty choice, but:

  1. It’s not raw. All “raw” nuts by Trader Joe’s have been steam
pasteurized, so the enzymes are toast.
  2. It’s expensive.
  3. I’m sick of eating it.

Feeling creative, I bought raw almonds, hazelnuts, macadamias,
raisins, and goji berries from the bulk section at Whole Food’s. I
tossed in a handful of each into my trusty Mason jar, shake shake
shake, and voil

The Journey is the Goal

People are often caught up in their five year plans, trying to
improve their lives, planning for the shadowy future. Enjoy the
present. It can only be enjoyed now.

What about goals? Sure, have them. Build an empire. Raise awesome
kids. Just remember to enjoy each step of the way. The goal is not
to have a big happy family. The goal is to enjoy the process of
creating one. If all you want is for your kids to grow up happy and
successful, adopt happy and successful adults!

Sometimes passion for a goal dwindles. If you are losing interest,
the journey is complete. You have experienced all you needed. It’s
time to celebrate.

Embrace change. Don’t worry about finishing what you started,
endlessly marching to your death. You’re already finished. You’ve
come to realize your journey is now taking you elsewhere. You are
enlightened.

Pursue your next goal with fiery passion. And the one after that.
Keep going. That is living, surfing wave after wave of endless
adventure.

Namaste, bitches

Mysore-Style Classes

I practice Ashtanga yoga and want to become an instructor. Since I
just moved to San Jose, I immediately sought a good instructor,
especially one certified by the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute
in Mysore, India. Luckily there are two studios within driving
distance, and they are even traditional Mysore style!

In Mysore-style classes, students practice by themselves. Instructors
observe students and make adjustments as needed. This has two
benefits:

After class, I went to the library and borrowed Ashtanga Yoga: The
Definitive Step-by-Step Guide to Dynamic Yoga by John Scott, to
deepen my practice while at home. Coincidentally, my instructor
Katie also had it at the studio. Having a detailed book on how to
breathe, move, and pose is definitely helpful for anyone looking
to deepen their practice.

Thanks for reading, I hope you have a lovely day!

Up to Mar 3

I meditate and do yoga every day, though I skipped two or three days while Bob was here.

I moved out of Hollywood again, living with Martyr at the moment.

I’ve started up the bass again, doing a lot of fundamental exercises like rhythm, limiting buzz, volume, string jumping, learning scales, etc. I learned how to play a basic blues groove from any scale using arpeggios.

My kombucha has completed. I am brewing almost too fast to drink, but I can, of course, drink more.

My handstands are coming along. Still working on balance, but arm strength isn’t much of a challenge. Of course, that means I am not spending enough time practicing balance, if I am not stopping because of arm strength.

My yoga postures are getting better each day. I decided to become an instructor, to further my practice, make money, and fuck some limber chicks. So I’ve started looking for Ashtanga yoga studios around here to study and eventually work at.

One revenue stream seems to have dried up while another is on the horizon.

I’ve been doing a lot of reading. I finished all six books of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy trilogy. Now working on Infinite Jest.

I’ve contacted a few people who want to form a band. I’m looking forward to jamming with people!

Martyr took me to a party the first night I got here. Picked up this little Wiccan chick with the best ass I’ve ever laid hands on. Spent the whole night grabbing her ass while she served me tea. Life is good.

I’m still on chapter 3 of How to Win Friends and Influence People, since I went back and started highlighting the chapters I already read. Every time I reread a chapter I learn a little bit more. It’s amazing. While rereading it I gave off a few gestures of appreciation to my friends, to add a little positivity to the world.

I baked a casserole last night. It was yummy.

Having a Vita-Mix means daily green smoothies. Yum!

My meditations are lasting far longer than they were when I was in LA. I go between 30 minutes to an hour every time.

In learning to give genuine compliments, I’ve trained myself to see the good in people easier. All people have good in them, we just need to look for it. This also makes my world a more positive place. If I only see positivity in the world, my world is heaven.
