Wendy, Rick, and Ray Go To Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle

After watching Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle with Eric, I insisted that anyone and everyone also watch it. Wendy and I went to the movie theatre to watch it on Sunday, but we arrived at 6:00 while the movie started at 7:15. Instead of waiting around for an hour, we decided to wait for Rick to get off work and come join us for the later showing at 9:40.

We headed back to Wendy’s place where I re-watched The Matrix and all its DVD extras while Wendy took a nap and dreamt of doing her laundry. 9:40 neared, so Wendy woke up and called Rick. At 9:45 or so Rick arrived. Wendy found another theatre that had a showing at 10:15, so we decided to go there instead. Although Wendy and Rick had gone to this theatre previously, they weren’t absolutely sure of the directions, so they decided to consult MapQuest.

MapQuest punked us good. Instead of going down Nicolls Road and making a right, we explored the entirety of Stony Brook with its long stretches of highway. We asked for directions from a stranger. He was obviously in collusion with MapQuest, because he told us to go on the Long Island Expressway and get off at exit 62, when we were already at exit 62.

Following his instructions and seeing the exit numbers descend away from 62 made us realize what happened. We got off at exit 61, made a U-turn, got back on the LIE, got off exit 62, and were given two options—north or south. According to the stranger, we were supposed to head south. Rick didn’t see the exit, and Wendy didn’t properly notify Rick where to exit beforehand. Long past the point where the car was supposed to turn, Wendy yelled at Rick to turn into the exit, which would have caused us to drive on the grass. This may have be acceptable for Wendy, but apparently not for Rick. So, we took the next nearest exit, made another U-turn, and headed back to the two choices—north or south. Sensing that Rick may miss the exit again, I gently suggested to him which exit to go to as early as possible.

Finally, we were heading south. Wendy saw a sign leading back to the LIE and somehow thought that that that’s where we were supposed to go. She insisted that we go in that direction, which Rick followed out of fear of being yelled at again by Wendy. So we wound up heading north again, had to take the next exit, go back south, and eventually reached the theatre.

I ran inside, asked for tickets (this was already 10:30 or so), and was promptly told, “Sold out.”

We began to get hungry. Since we couldn’t go to Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, we decided to just go to White Castle.

Back on familiar territory (every driver in Stony Brook theoretically knows Nicolls Road like the back of his or her hand) Rick started driving, and driving, and driving past where he should have turned to go toward White Castle. He realized his blunder several thousand feet later, and took the appropriate steps to drive toward White Castle once again.

Finally we arrived at White Castle and ate the most glorious of meals ever. Jalape
