“Scan for Key Phrases!”

I was watching Poltergeist: The Legacy last night. The group was looking up a Chinese newspaper, which the computer translated to approximately five paragraphs of English. Someone then commanded to “Scan for key phrases,” and the computer zoomed in on a paragraph about a Chinese ghost.

Have we become so illiterate/lazy that a computer is required to read five simple paragraphs?
